Thanksgiving is a way we should give thanks and how to express gratitude. You can find many instances in the Bible that talk about giving thanks to God and Jesus for all the blessings they provide us. It's so easy during the holiday season to be overwhelmed with all the tasks and activities to do. We often forget to stop and reflect on why we should be celebrating. Forget the food, forget the decorations, forget the shopping and read these Bible verses to meditate on all the ways God blesses us! Share these Scriptures with your family and friends this Thanksgiving to help bring peace and joy to a season that is normally run by anxiety and stress! Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Thanksgiving Day is a time to reflect and be thankful for all that God has given us to reflect on. Although we mostly consider Thanksgiving Day to be something that is celebrated only in the United States of America, did you know other countries celebrate similar holidays and feasts? For example:

India celebrates harvest in various regions
  • Canada celebrates thanksgiving in October
  • The cornucopia is traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. It comes from Greek mythology and was said to be a “horn of plenty” that was given by the Greek god Zeus. The horn was believed to magically produce an endless supply of anything desired by the one who owns the horn.
  • The Chinese Festival of “Chung Ch’ui” — on this day many in China eat moon cakes (small yellow cakes) to celebrate the harvest moon
  • The Jewish feast of Sukkot is observed during the harvest season
  • Ancient Egyptians had a feast in honor of Min, the god of harvest and fertility
Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in Croatia on August 5th. But rather than a thanksgiving holiday it is really a memorial to the day that the city of Knin was seized by the Croatian Army during the War of Independence.
  • Other countries such as Germany, Brazil, Ghana, Nigeria and Korea also have thanksgiving and/or harvest festivals.
We need not only be thankful one day a year but celebrate the greatness of our God with thanks everyday! Psalm 95:1-6 - O Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is a great :God, And a great King above all gods, In whose hand are the depths of the earth; The peaks of the mountains are His also. The sea is His, for it was He who made it; And His hands formed the dry land. Come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. How have you been blessed by the Lord?

Why we should be thankful what God has giving us:
1. Gods unfailing Love (Psalms 107)
2. Gods Mighty grace “Given to you in Christ” (1 Corinthians1:4)
3. Victory “Through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
4. Gods “Righteous laws” (Psalms 119:62)
5. The faith of others to sustain a cheer us (Philemon 1:4)

We are to be thankful for what God has done :
6. God has “answered me...[and] become my salvation” (Psalm 118:21).
7. Jesus has redeemed us. “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
8. God has qualified us “to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light” (Colossians 1:12).

We are to be thankful for who God is :
9. “God is good; His love endures forever” (1 Chronicles 16:34).
10. God is “faithful and just” (1 John 1:9).
Develop our hearts to be thankful does many good things. It gives compassion, love, and purpose. It keeps us from bitterness, arrogance and discouragement. It protects us from letting our lives be defined by what we don’t have. It keeps us humble and reminds us of our need for God everyday. Happy Thanksgiving to all this coming week and beyond. Everyday is Thanksgiving be blessed always in the love of Christ Jesus…..
